About us
Technical Specialisation
I specialize in translating subjects in which I have experience, but other general skills are also useful. For instance, programming teaches the precision needed. But most of all, it requires spending just a little extra time.
My contact with purchasing, engineering, procurement, and marketing helped me understand the challenges of supply chain management. I followed an eighteen-month supply chain training course and worked in a factory that was rebuilt from the ground up.
My technical experience in Access development helped me develop a Technical Translation Terms database to manage technical terms in current and future projects.
Experience relevant to Translation
Producing detailed management reports has given me vital insights into the process of producing end of year accounts.
I have managed multiple websites, produced marketing text for a site in line with SEO recommendations, using Rankmath, Ahrefs and Semrush.
Eighteen years living in France is useful to understand a text, even if technical.
Advanced Translation
Words are my work. I have spoken French since the age of thirteen, and I came to work in languages even after my technical studies.
I offer a range of translation-related services (technical translation, transcription, and subtitling).
I am interested in artistic and subtitling projects that intersect with my multimedia experience and interests. I hope to build on my full range of technical experience.
Video Technician
I started a small media company digitizing a wide range of analogue video and audio formats, including Super 8. We also duplicated digital media such as CDs, DVDs, SD cards, floppy disks, and Iomega ZIP discs.
The experience with MJL Video and Media Memory is valuable for subtitling, video editing, and transcription.
I edited digital projects based on digitized film, which sometimes required colour and exposure correction, reduction editing, or compiling photo slideshows. I now transcribe video into text for English translation and video subtitling.
Database Technician
I'm a technical translator with business and technical experience in information systems development, 10 years as a freelancer running a video transfer business and as an Excel teacher. I lived and worked in France for 18 years until 2018 and in the UK for 14 years in all.
Business Analyst
I was responsible for determining the compatibility of PC applications for year 2000 and whether to scrap, retain or redevelop them.
As a business analyst I learned how to document methods and understand the use of such documentation both for business people and development teams.
Database Manager
It was a great sense of achievement to develop the purchasing database for a large computer manufacturer, with a complex data process. I integrated forecast and production data from multiple sources in marketing, production, and purchasing.
My role was to develop and maintain the import process and produce the necessary KPIs. I collated product road maps for significant components and identified purchasing requirements for the corporate PeopleSoft implementation.
Project Manager
I spent three months organising project development in Access for an insurance company, and four years managing data flows into a large corporate pricing database.
Requirements Analyst
We use UML techniques for functional requirements analysis with use cases, class diagrams and relational data structures.
Our involvement can take different forms, either in modelling requirements with business actors, in modelling data processes.
Experience as an Independent
As an independent, you must fulfil all the business functions: management, accounting, production, and sales, which provides valuable insight into the overall process of management.
