Technical translation process
Being able to systematically process PDFs is an opportunity to translate technical documentation for any company which handles complex documents with diagrams.
These are engineering-type documents with technical drawings, diagrams, plans, layouts or tables.
As opposed to standard text, word documents etc which feed directly into the CAT tool, these documents require specific processing.
PDF documents are scanned with OCR software. But this is not usually enough to process them through the CAT tool. A clean document must be created for translation.
Process to translate technical PDFs
The process of translating a technical document depends on its complexity. Standard documents in Word format (even with embedded images) can be processed by our translation software.
More complex PDF documents with embedded schematics may need to be processed by OCR as follows. The objective is to prepare a clean document to be processed by the translation software.
- Pass the document through an OCR scanner like Wondershare.
- Paste this text into a clean Word document.
Remove double carriage returns.
Create clean paragraphs and headings without images or tables. - Paste back in any images.
Paste in any images with text boxes from OCR
If there is nothing to translate on the image, paste as is. - Then add in tables in OCR.

File formats processed
We process all file formats: all office documents including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF. We can process image files by OCR, including JPG, PNG. Likewise, we can process all audio files including WAV, MPG for audio transcription. In terms of video, we process all typical video files for subtitling, including MOV and MP4. In general, we can usually convert from one format to another.
